In 1985, Bobby was transferred to Lafayette, Louisiana, where he met his best friend and the love of his life, Kathleen Sobek, whom he married the following year on June 21, 1986. After beginning their adventure together, they eventually settled in Norman, Oklahoma, where they raised their two children.

As a father, Bobby was always lovingly involved in his children’s lives, coaching many of Tyler’s baseball teams, attending Emily’s numerous cheerleading competitions, and encouraging them to pursue their passions. As a husband and partner, he was completely thoughtful and supportive – fiercely devoted to Kathleen throughout their blissful, 33-year love affair. As a family, the Smiths loved to travel together, try the most adventurous foods, and cheer on their Oklahoma Sooners. Bobby also loved to golf, cook, and play just about any instrument he could get his hands on.

Everyone who knew him loved, respected, and admired him. Through his life and his career, he impacted countless lives in countless ways. He was hard-working, good-natured, and built a legacy of integrity. He was a truly honorable man.

I have been fortunate enough to be graced by Bobby and Kathleen’s love and generosity on many occasions. When Bobby and Kathleen learned I was not having a graduation party when I graduated college, they took it upon themselves to throw me one. It’s been one of the biggest blessings to have Emily as my best friend and I attribute the woman she has become to her incredible parents. Bobby will be dearly missed, but I certainly feel fortunate to have known such a kind and genuine man.

What a wonderfully kind and generous father and husband. Patient and compassionate to all. It was evident that his love for his wife and kids drove his daily decisions and filled his heart with pride. My condolences are shared to those loved ones who will sorely miss him daily but will choose to live on with his spirit walking right beside them in all of life’s next chapters.

The first time I knew Bobby was a one of a kind person is when I worked at Red River Ranch.
It was the night the tornadoes hit Moore and he would not let me drive home to OKC. It was the first night I worked with him.
He told me I was staying with him and his family and would not take no for an answer.
You did not argue with Bobby when his mind was made up.
So I submitted and from then on it was a special friendship that was made.

May his legacy continue through his precious wife and children and their spouses and his Grandson.
