Joyce was born November 28, 1940 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Cornelius Henry 'Hank' Bettes and Vivian Dean Smith Bettes. She was the eldest of 4 children. She graduated high school in Arkansas City, Kansas in 1959. She completed Nursing School in 1962 through the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. She completed many other post-graduate educational opportunities.
In 1966, she was introduced to Oscar Dale Lane through his aunt Louise Henry who happened to be Joyce's supervisor at the OU Health Clinic. They were united in marriage September 16, 1966 and have been blessed with many years together.
Joyce was an outgoing, friendly, caring and compassionate person. No one was ever a stranger to her and in a moment could become her newest friend. She was a devoted wife, mother and nurse.
During her career as a nurse, she worked at Norman Regional Hospital, American Red Cross, York International, and Cleveland County Health Department. While at the Health Department her duties were suited to her personality of serving all. While there, she became friends with nearly every fireman and policeman in Norman through their immunization programs. She was always a part of the American Red Cross disaster team and assisted directly on numerous occasions. She was also active in many professional clubs such as Business Professional Women and The Rotary Club.
Dale and Joyce lived in Norman where they raised their three children. Family was most important to her. She was so proud of her children Alan, Kent and Anita and her grandchildren Zachary, Samantha and Sabrina that everyone knew all about them before even meeting them.
Joyce enjoyed traveling, photography, making stained glass, reading, and cross-stitching especially to make Christmas stockings and such for her children and grandchildren. She was a person of quality and enjoyed nice things for herself and her family. Also, an animal lover, she cared for her two cats and loved her `grand'dogs and `grand'cats.
She is survived by her beloved husband Oscar Dale Lane; her three children, Alan Dale Lane of Reno, Nevada, Anita Marie Lane of Reno, Nevada, and Kent Brady Lane and his wife Heather Elizabeth Logan Lane of Columbus, Georgia; her three grandchildren, Zachary Logan Thomas Lane, Samantha Paige Elizabeth Lane, and Sabrina Anne Michelle Lane; sister Vickie Petersen and her husband Ray Petersen of Wichita, Kansas, sister Delores Woolsey of Wichita, Kansas, brother Keith Bettes and his wife Linda Bettes of Wichita, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
