Ken’s adventures began when he was born on 8 December 1938 to Daniel & M. Gladys Hallock as the final of six children in Picher, Oklahoma. Growing up in Norman, Ken had a variety of role models to choose from: Ken’s two older brothers, Hubert & Glen, were notoriously scrappy while his two sisters were remarkably studious. Sammy, his brother who followed them, warned him that the teachers at Norman High School would make him a “front of the class” student or “back of the class” student depending on which set of siblings they taught.
Instead of attending high school, Ken spent his youth getting into mischief, running away to get odd jobs, hitchhiking to visit his brothers, getting arrested a few times, and trying out different juvenile halls in the nation. When he was 16, he joined the military as the three generations before him and all his brothers. After brief stints in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and the US Army, he transferred to the United States Air Force and finished out a 20-year career.
While stationed in Spokane, WA, Ken met and married Carol Fremstad. They lived/traveled throughout Europe and had three children: Dan, Bill, and Jeanne. After he got them settled into their home in San Antonio, he was also stationed in Thailand, Korea, and Guam.
After retiring, he went to Korea on vacation, met Sonya Kim, and a short while later, they were married. Their union produced one daughter: Katherine. Shortly thereafter, he put his knowledge from the USAF Marksmanship School’s Gunsmith shop to work, wrote three pamphlets and one book on the Colt .45. He made gunshows around the country and was considered an expert on the .45 worldwide.
It was during these long gunshow trips that he found a relationship with Christ. Thereafter, he tried to show the love of Jesus to all he met, opening his home and sharing all the resources he had available to him to help people in need. He also loved researching genealogy, studying all things historical, and telling riveting stories.
He is predeceased by his parents, Daniel Webster Hallock & Mary Gladys Whitehead Hallock Morrow, and siblings, Hubert Hallock, Glen Hallock, Patsy Hallock Wolfe Sampson and Sammy Hallock. He has left his sister, Dorothy Hallock Dhillon, to carry the torch for their generation. He also leaves four children whom he loves dearly and is extremely proud of: Daniel Hallock, William Hallock, Jeanne Hallock, and Katherine Hallock Beard as well as grandson, Kailebh Hallock.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at Primrose Funeral Service. Burial will follow at Paoli Cemetery, Paoli, OK.
