Larry Bryce McDade was born on September 10, 1944, in Del Rio, Texas, to Bryce McDade and Aggie (Endicott) McDade. He passed away on November 12, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loving family. Larry made his home in Norman for many years, building a life filled with purpose, creativity, and devotion to the people he loved.
As a child, Larry battled polio and spent time in a wheelchair, but through the tireless dedication of his mother, who worked with him every single day, she helped him learn to walk again. This early challenge shaped his strength, determination, and perseverance throughout the rest of his life.
Larry married the love of his life, Dana Beth (Crider) McDade, and together they shared countless good times and memories until her passing on March 4, 2015. He earned his degree in Foreign Languages from the University of Oklahoma and later completed a Master’s Degree in Nutrition. His professional journey reflected his wide-ranging interests and natural curiosity. He worked for many years as a photographer, capturing the moments and milestones of families throughout the Norman area. He was also a photographer for The Norman Transcript in his earlier years. Larry found great joy in music, especially Jazz and Big Band classics, and spent time as a DJ for KGOU, hosting health radio shows on KTOK. He also loved flying small planes, one of his favorite hobbies.
In his 40s, Larry made a courageous career change, something he remained deeply proud of. His entrepreneurial spirit, determination, and ability to succeed in anything he set his mind to were qualities admired by many. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of business and entrepreneurship with those around him. Larry loved spending time with his grandchildren, focusing on health and wellness, and relaxing with episodes of Last of the Summer Wine. To those who knew him best, he was “Doc” or “Lencho,” names he cherished.
Above all else, Larry loved his family. He is survived by his daughter, Kim Torres, and her spouse, Rick, of Moore; his sister, Carol McDade Conley of Norman; his grandchildren, Haydn McDade, Bryce Torres, Lionel Torres, and Ricky Torres and his spouse, Natalie Torres; and his great-grandchildren, Bella Torres, Olivia Torres, Alex Torres, and soon-to-arrive Grayson Robinson McDade. He is also survived by his cousin, Melissa Endicott; his niece, Darci Potts, and her spouse Mike and son Wyatt; his nephew, Jason Conley, and his spouse, Jen, along with their children Trent and Mallory; and his brother-in-law, Bud Pittman. He is further survived by his dear friend and nurse, Aubrey Poage, who spent every Friday with him “talking shop” about health and nutrition, conversations Larry always treasured.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dana McDade; his parents, Aggie and Bryce McDade; his brother-in-law, Phil Conley; his mother-in-law, Bethena Crider; and his sister-in-law, Debbie Pittman.
Larry was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Norman, where he found fellowship and community.
