Larry Vernon Wood

Larry Vernon Wood, born October 13, 1949, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Vestel Vernon Wood and Lillian Kathryn (Hazlewood) Wood, passed away surrounded by his family on November 15, 2025, in Norman, Oklahoma.

On December 21, 1974, Larry married the love of his life, Judy Marie (Gould). Together they shared fifty-one years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion. Larry graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1975 and lived for many years in Bakersfield, California, before making his home in Norman in 2020.

Larry had a passion for bluegrass music and found great joy in playing guitar, writing, and drawing. A man of unwavering Christian faith, he dedicated much of his life to sharing the message of salvation and guiding others toward a saving faith in Jesus. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Judy Wood, of the home; his daughter, Sarah Pickard, and her husband, Jeremy, of Harrogate, Tennessee; his son, Jesse Wood, and his wife, Ashley, of Bentonville, Arkansas; and his sister, Jane Wood, of McAlester, Oklahoma. He is also survived by three cherished grandchildren: Lauren (Pickard) Kelsey, Melony Wood, and Hayden Wood.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vestel Vernon Wood and Lillian Kathryn (Hazlewood) Wood, as well as his brother, Lynn Ray Wood.

A service to celebrate Larry’s life will be held on December 11th at 10:30 AM at Grace Place Baptist Church, 9300 S. Anderson Rd., Oklahoma City, OK 73165.
