Born on September 22, 1966, in Norman, Leigh was the beloved daughter of Donnie Ray Fountain Sr. and Lynda Loanne Pruett. She was a proud graduate of Norman High School, Class of 1984. On June 21, 1985, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Robert Finchum, after a whirlwind romance that blossomed into 40 years of a joyful, devoted marriage.
Shaun embraced the role of an Army wife with grace, strength, and unwavering support. Together with Ken, she lived in numerous locations across the country including Fort Gordon, Georgia; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Carson, Colorado; and Fort Hood, Texas. Her proudest role during these years was serving as a Family Support Group Leader while Ken was deployed to Iraq. With compassion and leadership, she guided over 100 military families through some of life’s most difficult seasons.
After Ken’s retirement from the Army, the couple settled in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2010. In 2021, they returned home to Norman to be near family and friends.
Shaun lived a vibrant, heartfelt life. She loved classic rock and the soulful sounds of old Motown. Always drawn to the color black, her wardrobe, her cars, her style, it suited her strength and timeless elegance. She also loved garage and estate sales with her Aunt Sharon, tending to her plants and chickens, and, above all, spending precious time with her grandchildren.
She had the rare ability to talk to anyone and truly listen. Whether you were family, friend, or a stranger, Shaun made you feel like you mattered. Her warmth, intelligence, and genuine presence left an impression on everyone she met. People were drawn to her not just for her kindness, but because she made space for others' stories, joys, and sorrows.
Shaun will be remembered as a strong, compassionate, and intelligent woman. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren Ethan Nichols, Wyatt Nichols, Abigail Finchum, Logan Morgan, and Sam Nichols; each of whom brought her boundless joy and laughter.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Finchum; her loving daughter Erin Finchum; her siblings Donnie Fountain, Kevin Fullingim, Kyle Fullingim and wife Mindy, Angee Donaghe, and Jessica Sark and husband Frank; her grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and her loyal red heeler, May, alongside her beloved flock of 30 chickens.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Adam Finchum and Ryan Finchum.
Shaun was a proud member of Franklin Baptist Church and carried her faith with quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, resilience, and deep compassion.
