Lena Faye Tramel

Lena Faye Tramel, who grew up picking cotton and ended up picking up the spirits of everyone around her, went to be with her Lord on April 9, 2015, at age 82. She loved her family and her friends and Southern gospel music and women’s fashion. She sought out the lonely, brightening many a corner. Lena was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Lexington. She graduated from Lexington High School in 1950, worked for the telephone company and Franklin Life Insurance in OKC, and married J.L. Tramel on April 8, 1960. Lena and J.L. were a dynamic singing duo; they sang at hundreds of funerals and thousands of church services, and all who heard Lena sing “Peace Like a River” with her deep voice never forgot the experience. Lena and J.L. were together in the ministry (pastoring Pentecostal Holiness churches in Norman and Purcell), the motel business and raising a family. J.L. preceded Lena in death, as did her parents, Sam and Hazel Womack; brothers S.D. (and wife Evelyn), Iman, Buck and Doyce; and sisters Norma Hustead (and husband Vern) and Noreen West (and husband James). She is survived by sons Berry Tramel and wife Tricia, Terry Tramel and wife Beckie, and Kerry Tramel and wife Vy, all of Norman; granddaughters Haley Argyle and husband J.J., and Tara Light and husband Steffan, and grandsons Clayton Tramel, Zander Tramel and Max Tramel, all of Norman; great-granddaughters Riley, Sadie and Tinley Argyle of Norman; sister June Webb (and husband James) of Norman, brothers Don Womack (and wife Margaret) of Norman and Doyal Womack (and wife Marsha) of Noble, sister-in-laws Marilyn Womack of Oklahoma City and Ruth Womack of Norman, numerous nieces and nephews and a Tramel side of the family that considered her a sister in every sense of the word. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Church of God, 4400 E. Alameda in Norman. Visitation will befrom 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 N. Porter in Norman.
