Leona was a native of Oklahoma, born on May 30, 1932. For most of her early years, she lived in Laverne, graduating from Laverne HS in 1949.
With a close friend from Laverne at her side, in 1949 she made a beeline for the bright lights of OKC and enrolled in the Draughn School of Business. She completed her schooling while supporting herself with part time jobs, such as selling popcorn at a movie theatre and typing medical records when they were recalling the 49th for Korea.
Her friend set her up on a blind date with the man destined to be her husband, Chris. Two years later, in 1952, when he returned from Korea, Chris and Leona were married.
For the next 15 years, Leona travelled the US and overseas as the wife of a military man. In the process, she and Chris raised 2 sons, Gary and Larry and a daughter, Pamela.
When Chris retired from the Air Force in 1967, they settled in Norman, Oklahoma where she was to remain until just before her death.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, her son, Gary and her daughter, Pamela and three beautiful grandchildren, Jennifer, Alison and Kyle. Leona’s two sisters, Wanda and Winona, her brother, Dale, and son Larry, predeceased her. She will be missed so much by her many friends and family.
