

Mary was born September 19, 1949, in Clinton, Oklahoma, to Barbara (Frazier) and John Arney. She grew up in Weatherford, Oklahoma, and went on to graduate from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Masters in Education. Mary devoted her professional life to Norman Public Schools, serving with distinction as an elementary school reading specialist. With steady dedication and a deep respect for the power of words, She helped children learn to read and communicate, an enduring gift that changed countless lives.
On June 22, 1996, Mary married the love of her life, Larry Naifeh. Together they built a life marked by warmth, sincerity, and steadfast support, including Mary’s grounded encouragement of Larry’s lifetime career at The University of Oklahoma.
Mary was an avid gardener and a devoted lover of animals. Guided by a keen eye and impeccable taste, she transformed their home and gardens into a true oasis, so cherished it became the setting for many tailgates and gatherings, and even their own wedding ceremony. Mary and Larry especially enjoyed this “park in the middle of town” alongside their trusty companion, Frazier Eugene, a fluffy, spunky bichon. Mary’s welcoming spirit put others at ease, and her infectious laugh could fill a room.
Mary is survived by her husband Larry Naifeh; her beloved daughter Tyson Dickey; stepdaughter Jessica Naifeh Blyden and husband Josh; her two grand girls Isabelle and Evelyn Blyden who were her little angels; brother John Arney and wife Fredda; brother Brian Arney and wife Shirley; sister Sue Weedn and husband Roger; Sister Myra Arney; sister Barbara Arney, and along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her dearly.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Barbara (Frazier) and John Arney, and her brother Chris Arney.
A visitation of family and friends will be held in Mary's honor 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at Primrose Funeral Service located, 3901 North Flood Norman, Oklahoma.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM, Wednesday September 9, 2026 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 211 N Porter Ave, Norman, OK. Following a reception, she will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 East Indian Hills Road, Norman, OK at 1:00 PM.
