Melissa Kay Freeman was born November 4, 1970, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and died October 20, 2026, in Noble, Oklahoma, at the age of 55. She lived in Noble, Oklahoma, and built a life defined by steady love, quiet strength, and a deep, everyday devotion to the people in her care.
Melissa was married to Darren Freeman on March 26, 1994, and they shared 33 years of marriage. In the rhythm of family life, her heart was clearest, she loved her children and grandchildren fiercely, and took her greatest joy in watching them grow into who they were becoming. She wanted to be remembered simply and truly: as someone who helped others, and as a mother and grandmother who loved her kids and grandkids without reservation.
She is survived by her husband, Darren Freeman; her daughters, Taylor Brianna and Kara Kay; her son, Logan Ray; and her grandchildren, Ryder Ray and Phoenix Kay. She is also survived by her sister, Amber Lea Bryant; her brother, Jim (Bo) Bryant; her mother, Gloria Kay Banic; and her step-father, John Banic.
Melissa was the daughter of Jim Bryant and Gloria Kay Kelly. She graduated from Norman High School in 1989 and attended classes at Oklahoma City Community College.
A creative spirit in the truest sense, Melissa found comfort and meaning in making things with her hands;painting, clay, diamond art, and crafting of all kinds. She also loved photography, wildlife, and birds, and some of her happiest moments were simple ones: sitting on the back porch, watching the world move gently through the day. Music was another kind of companion to her, with favorites that ranged from Prince and Tracey Chapman to Snoop, 50 Cent, and old country; an honest mix that suited a person who didn’t need to fit neatly into one lane to know exactly what she liked.
In the ways that mattered most, Melissa was someone who showed up. She raised three great kids into awesome adults, and when life asked more of her, she met it with grit and generosity, teaching herself how to build webpages for a cancer support group and making TikTok videos for Cancer Support, offering encouragement to those going through the cancer treatment process. Those who loved her learned from her humility and patience, lessons she taught not by speeches, but by the way she lived.
