Melvin Robert Stokes

Melvin Robert Stokes, 79, of Norman, was called home to God on Sunday March 4th, 2018. Melvin was born in Noble on July 30th, 1938 to Robert and Louise Stokes. A lifelong resident of Norman, he graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in 1956. Melvin worked at the University of Oklahoma Physical Plant for many years, meeting his wife, Carol Louann Stokes, on campus. He retired in 1995. An avid OU fan from both the sidelines and the stands, he also enjoyed shooting sports with family and friends. Melvin was a member of Masonic Lodge 38. His parents, Robert and Louise Stokes; his brother Richard Stokes; two sisters, Rita Seiter and Clara Mae Langevin; and son Brent Todd Ketner precede him in death. Melvin is survived by his wife Carol Louann Stokes, of Norman; sister Evelyn Clark of Earlsboro; brother Vernon Stokes and wife Judy of Wanette; daughters Johnna Mitcheltree and husband Dean of Moore; Nancy Baxendale and husband Bob of Oklahoma City; sons Kerry Ketner and wife Cheryl of Plano; Barry Ketner and wife Kellie of Norman; Monty Ketner of Oklahoma City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being made at Primrose Funeral Home in Norman, OK with services to be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Norman, on Friday March 9th at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities.

Biography

Melvin Robert Stokes, 79, of Norman, was called home to God on Sunday March 4th, 2018. Melvin was born in Noble on July 30th, 1938 to Robert and Louise Stokes. A lifelong resident of Norman, he graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in 1956.
