She was born April 20, 1922 on her family ranch outside Falfurrias, Texas. She was the youngest of 9 siblings, descended from early Texas pioneers. She loved everything Texan.
Mittie married Lloyd F. Colgrove when they were students at Texas A & I in Kingsville, Texas. When he was serving in World War II she returned to her family home. Mittie, whose husband was a career Mobil employee, and her young family moved 22 times, always in Texas. Each time she created a welcoming home and was always kind to new and old friends.
Mittie was a lifelong member of the Methodist church and often taught adult Sunday School classes. She worked several years in a high school library and was a hospital volunteer for many years. Her hobbies included reading, sewing and cooking wild game.
She is survived by four daughters, Dianne Colgrove, Kathleen Kershen (Drew), Barbara Tunney (Patrick) and Janice Muhm (Philip).
Other survivors are: 10 grandchildren, including James Baker (Karen), Mitzi Baker-Talev (Dimitar), Joshua Kershen (Julianna), Andrew Kershen (Catheryn Koss), Katherine Bicer (Murat), Michael Kershen (Jennifer), Neill Muhm, Lenora Muhm (Aaron Charnay), and John Muhm. There are also 10 precious great-grandchildren.
A graveside memorial will be held in Falfurrias, Texas. She will rest beside her beloved husband, Lloyd, in a family plot among the bluebonnets.
