Following her graduation from high school in Prescott, Arizona, in 1948, Dean relocated to Madison, Wisconsin, where she began her career as a secretary at the Oscar Meyer Factory.
In December 1951, she married Laudrel Hugh Wakeland. Together they moved to East Texas, where Dean devoted herself to being a loving wife and mother before serving as secretary at Mobberly Avenue Church of Christ for ten years.
In August 1979, Dean relocated to Norman, Oklahoma, where she worked on and off for the next forty years in the family-owned dry cleaning business. After completing her civil service qualifications, she was employed at Tinker Air Force Base as an Inventory Management Specialist until her retirement in 1993. A faithful member of the Alameda Church of Christ, Dean treasured opportunities to travel, volunteer, and enjoy fellowship with her many friends.
Dean found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved creating ceramics, working puzzles, and ice skating. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A remarkable woman of strength and perseverance, Dean was a two-time cancer survivor who courageously overcame numerous life-threatening illnesses throughout her life.
Dean was the kindest soul and never had an enemy. Everyone who had the privilege of knowing her adored her. She had an unintentionally funny wit and possessed a wonderful ability to light up any room with her presence.
Dean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her father, her mother, her siblings, and other cherished family members. She is survived by her son, Mark; her daughters, Gaye and Connie; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a beloved nephew; and numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Dean's legacy is one of unwavering faith, unconditional love, and the lasting impact she made on all who knew and loved her.
