A farm girl who always dreamed of more. She graduated from Norman High School, holding a beauty queen crown in one hand and wearing a wedding ring on the other.
She later went on to graduate from OU with a nursing degree. The first college graduate in our family, education was extremely important to her.
She worked in nursing and administration at Norman Regional, Hillcrest Hospital, and the Veteran’s Hospital in Norman until she retired.
She was very active during her life. She loved traveling and her house was filled with souvenirs from her travels. I don’t think she actually knew how to throw a boomerang but she had one on her living room shelf, bought authentically in Australia.
She loved music, her family, and her church.
She did not like cooking and gave us all food poisoning at least once in our lives.
She is survived by her husband, James Curren and her four children, David Scott Oliphant, Anthony Delane Oliphant, James Burton Oliphant, and Taffaline Maronnie Hicks.
She is survived by one sister, Bennie Driskell.
She remembered birthdays and went to every ball game her ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren invited her to. She cheered for us. She laughed with us. She loved us. We were truly blessed to have such a powerful and opinionated influence in our lives.
