Olin E. Smith, age 70, passed away unexpectedly in his home on June 8, 2026. Olin was born on November 21, 1955 in Wewoka, OK. Olin was preceded in death by his father, O.E. Smith, and his mother, Beverly Smith.
From the time he was young, Olin’s energetic spirit, humor, and love for people made him unforgettable. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, valued, and loved. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of belonging to every room he entered. He was the family comedian and entertainer. His sense of humor was contagious, he always put a smile on your face, and the only tears were from absolute joy. He was a fierce protector of his family, always standing by the people he loved with unwavering loyalty.
Olin graduated from Wewoka High School in 1974. He then continued his education, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Oklahoma University in 1985. Though he didn’t pursue a career in teaching, he used that degree everyday in the most meaningful ways- helping his children and grandchildren with spelling, grammar, reading, and schoolwork. His patience, encouragement, and love for learning became part of the legacy he passed down to them.
Olin is survived by his wife, Kathy (Wade) Smith, whom he married March 10, 1978. Together they created a loving home in Norman, Oklahoma where they lived for 48 lovely years. Olin was the proud father to 3 sons, Chris, Eli, and Ian; whom he loved deeply and supported throughout their lives. He also welcomed his daughters-in-law, Z (married to Eli) and Lacey (married to Ian) into the family with warmth, humor, and wholehearted acceptance he showed everyone he loved. Olin is also survived by his brothers Mark and Larry Smith, sister Karen Smith, nephews Rian and David, and many extended family.
Family was the center of Olin’s world. Nothing brought him more joy than being a grandfather. He never missed a chance to show up for his grandchildren Oriana, Elaina, Aria, and Keira. Whether it was a game, a performance, or a small everyday moment, he was there with pride, encouragement, and a full heart. They were his companions, playmates, and his greatest delight.
Olin had many talents. He was a singer-songwriter who acted as a one-person band for his music. He was an artist who created cartoon drawings, monsters, and imaginative characters. He wrote short stories and had a way with words that could make you feel the pages. He gave the best advice- thoughtful, honest, and rooted in genuine care- and he was always willing to listen. His faith and his family guided his life, and he devoted himself to helping others, donating to many charities out of a sincere desire to make a difference. Olin leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and steadfast devotion. His impact will live on in the countless lives he touched and in the family who will forever cherish his memory.
