Dr. Pallan Rustomji Ichaporia, 80, of Oklahoma City, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. From Karachi, Pakistan, he was the son of Rustomji E. Ichaporia and Navajbai Rustomji (Umrigar) Ichaporia. He moved his family to the United States in 1979, first settling in Enid, Oklahoma, eventually working in New York, the Philadelphia area, and presenting research around the globe. An Avestan scholar of the Zoroastrian religion, he co-authored several publications, most notably "The Heritage of Zarathushtra" and “The Pahlavi Yasna of the Gāthās and Yasna Haptanhāiti.”
Dr. Ichaporia, PhD, MBA, served as chair of the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North Americas's Research and Preservation Committee and was co-founder of Society of Scholars of Zoroastrianism (SSZ). He has left an invaluable legacy of research on Avestan and Gathic texts. His rich library of books has been donated to the FEZANA Information, Research and Education System library in Houston, where his legacy lives on with his name emblazoned for posterity in each book.
The Paydust and Gehsarna prayers (funeral) will be performed by Ervad Peshotan Unwalla at 3:00 PM, Monday, February 24th at Primrose Funeral Home, 1109 N. Porter Avenue, Norman, OK. Subsequent prayers will be performed at the Bhandara Atash Kadeh in Houston.
Husband of the late Hutoxi Ichaporia, he is survived by his children Burjor Ichaporia, Farida Ichaporia and Mani Hagood of Oklahoma City, Aban Boman of Phoenix, AZ. Rashna Ichaporia of Reading, PA, and grandchildren Chase Ward of Ann Arbor, MI, Neal Boman of Phoenix, AZ, and James Ingram of Oklahoma City.
