Pat was born in Tulsa, OK on September 4th, 1930. She was the only child of Mertie and Nellie DeMent.
Pat was a member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church. Although she could not attend in her later years, she stayed in contact with many friends in her Sunday School class. Pat was an avid bridge player and a longtime member of the Southside Oklahoma City Newcomers Bridge Club. Family was the only thing Pat loved more than bridge. After years of Pat’s encouraging, her family learned to play in 2012. Shortly after, the weekly Thursday night bridge game was born. Pat looked forward to it all week and would make cookies with her grandkids in preparation for the game night.
Pat also loved sports. She had two TV’s in her living room so she never missed an out, a down, or a bucket. She looked forward to having chili dogs with her family on Saturday’s during OU Football season, watching any baseball game, and watching OKC Thunder basketball. Pat and her son, Rob, enjoyed betting gold dollars on sports games, a tradition that Pat started with her mother many years ago.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband and best friend of 48 years, Frank Gilkes; daughters Sheryl Jones and Jana Holstein; and great-grandson Benjamin Henson. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Regina Gilkes and step-daughter and husband, Carolyn and John Poer, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pat will be remembered as a wonderful host – she was the life of the party and never met a stranger. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service to celebrate Pat’s life will be held Friday, February 16th, 2018 at 11:00am at Southern Hills Church of God.
