Peggy Joyce (Sallee) Gamble, a fiercely independent soul, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, surrounded by family at the age of 88. Born on January 21, 1937, in Norman, Oklahoma to Jack and Minnie (Fullingim) Sallee.
Peggy grew up in the Little River area of Norman, Oklahoma with her mom and grandparents, Ora and Fannie Grant. Peggy attended Denver school before transferring to Noble in 1945. In 1947 Peggy’s mother, Minnie married Raymond Petross, establishing the family home in Noble. Peggy attended Noble Schools and loved the lifelong friends she made throughout her years in Noble. During her school days she enjoyed being a cheerleader, she excelled in band and even shared how proud she was about contributing to the writing of the Noble Bear School song that is still sung today. After graduating from Noble in 1954, Peggy began working for an abstract company at the Cleveland County Courthouse researching for the title department in Norman, OK. In 1958, Peggy married Johnny Gamble and through that 30-year union they were blessed with two children, Kimberly Rose and Monty Ray.
The family took an adventure in 1965 and moved to colorful Colorado, where they raised their children while enjoying the beautiful outdoors through camping, snowmobiling and fishing. Peggy had a deep passion for visiting with her friends. She was an avid, competitive player in various bridge clubs and bowling leagues.
After moving back to Oklahoma in 1981, Peggy enjoyed years at the OU Alumni Office where she received multiple distinguished awards and attended several of her Noble High School class reunions. She had a passion for dancing and was an active member of the Oklahoma City Silver Spur square dancing club, winning several competitions. It was at one of those square dance functions that she met Harvey Lee Bruner, who became not only her dance partner, but a dear friend. Peggy and Harvey could be found on Friday nights volunteering and dancing at the VFW.
Peggy lived life on her own terms as a uniquely determined lady. Those who knew her will remember a person who refused to let life's challenges dim her spark. She valued independence deeply, finding strength in self-reliance and joy in the simple act of moving freely in the world.
