Penny Lou (Givens) Bruehl, age 60, passed from this life on January 8, 2020. Services have been entrusted to the care of Primrose Funeral Service located at 1109 N. Porter Ave. in Norman, OK. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 from 12-8pm and a funeral service honoring her life will take place at 1pm on Thursday, January 16, 2020, both at Primrose Funeral Service.

Penny was born on April 3, 1959 in Purcell, OK to Roy and Mary Mavis (Sarrett) Givens. She attended school in Oklahoma City at Captiol Hill until 1972 when her family returned to Purcell where she graduated from Purcell High School with the class of 1977. In school, she enjoyed playing on the high school basketball team as well as being an active member of the band. She then attended the University of Oklahoma. She was baptized on May 2, 1980 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell. Through her early life, she held jobs at Tastee Freez, Perfection Hi-Test and Purcell Municipal Hospital before starting her career at Tinker Air Force Base. She spent 35 years at Tinker before retiring in January 2016 as an Industrial Engineering Technician Lead. It was there that she met many people that became her dearest, life-long friends.

Grandma Penny adored her grandkids and loved to spoil them, whether taking them out to eat, buying them goodies at garage sales or cuddling up watching cartoons. She enjoyed her house at Lake Texoma and the many wonderful friends that she made there. She enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping with her family. There aren’t enough words to describe how selfless, loving, understanding and wonderful Penny was to all who knew her. Above all else, Penny cherished her family. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Penny is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Mavis (Sarrett) Givens and brother, Jerry Dale Givens.

She is survived by her son, Ryan Bruehl and wife Leah; daughter, Kelli Anderson; grandchildren: Whitney Bruehl, Adlee Croslin, Mckenzie Bruehl and Ace Anderson; brother, Don Givens; and sister, Dana Spencer and husband James, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other beloved family members and friends.

My sweet Penny....Though it has been many years since we graduated in ‘77 and we have lost touch, I recall how you always wore a smile. You were the kind of person everyone wanted to be friends with. I have no doubt you continued living life in that same way. May all who knew and loved you continue being blessed by your love. Godspeed my friend.

So sorry to hear of Penny’s passing. All of my high school memories include her and the many adventures we had. Her smile and laugh were infectious and will be missed by all who knew her. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I feel very blessed to have been able to work with Penny and more importantly become her friend. Penny certainly enriched my life. We will miss her smile, her wisdom, knowledge, and just being Penny.

My thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones.

Penny was truly a blessing to everyone that knew her. Such a terrific mom and grandma. She was also a "true blue" friend.
I'm gonna miss her and that contagious smile!

My aunt Penny Lou, you were just three months older than I, we grew up together some of my earliest memories was in your backyard over on 59th riding our tricycles and playing games, we must’ve been three or four years old. You were more like a sister than Aunt, we had a lot of wonderful times graduating together and going to prom. You are going to be missed dearly, but I can see your mama’s face when she seen you and finally got to hug you again. I know you will be in heaven watching over your son, daughter, and grandkids. I love you like a sister, Coley Givens. ❤️

Penny, I have no words, I’m at a loss. Your such a special friend, not only to me but to every one you met! The world won’t be the same without your funny laugh and your crooked eyebrow look you’d give when someone would say something you thought was silly! Kelli and Ryan your mom was one in a million that will be missed by so many. Saying special prayers for y’all and your family. See you on the other side friend!! ❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I am writing this through tears so bare with me. I love you and I have a million good times I remember with you. I have enjoyed our lunch dates we have had in the last year. Okay now the memories. I remember going to the sale barn with Grandpa and a lot of times we had to drive home, I remember when you got struck by lightning while we were playing in the back yard, I remember the baby squirrel you raised till it bit Grandpa and we never seen it again, I remember our Easters and Christmas's, I remember how we screamed when we got hurt and Grandpa got out his fix all metolaid and it hurt worse than our boo-boo, I could go on and on. I thought of you as a sister than a aunt since I was older than you. I love you to the moon and back and my love and prayers are with your children and Grand Children. You will be dearly missed by all. Keep smiling for Heaven has gained a beautiful angel.

I couldnt have asked for a better Aunt growing up. Whenever times were tough she always made sure I knew that she was there for me and if I needed anything she was always one phone call away. I am still in so much shock that I wont have my Aunt Penny there to share good times and bad times with. My heart goes out to Kelli and Ryan. God took her way too soon but I know my mom was waiting there for her with a smile and open arms.

What great memories we have of Penny always helping with the Purcell Pride Band. Whether it was a practice, game, competition, fundraiser, it didn’t matter, she was always willing to lend a hand however she could. Her smile was contagious, her personality so fun. We enjoyed being around her and most importantly, calling her friend. Our deepest sympathy to Ryan & Kelly. Prayers for peace and comfort.

Some of my fondest childhood memories were at Aunt Penny’s house with Ryan and Kelly. We had such fun times and I will always remember how welcome she made me feel. I’m gonna miss seeing her around town and how she would always say “hey Jooohhnnn” her own special way. Thanks for all the special memories you are dearly missed.
