Memorial service for Robert Mark Montgomery Blacksten, 62, former Norman resident, will be 1:00 pm Friday, March 13, 2015 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church with Scott Meier officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Primrose Funeral Service.
Mr. Blacksten passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2015 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Mark was born January 7, 1953 in Independence, Missouri to Robert Harvey and Betty Sue (Reagin) Blacksten. He grew up in Kansas City and graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1975 before joining the U.S. Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged as a Major. Mark then worked for Proctor & Gamble, which brought him to Oklahoma in 1980. He later worked for Federated Insurance and moved to Norman in 1983. He married Julie Rutherford in July of 1983. In 1995, he joined Rich & Cartmill Insurance and opened their first office in the Oklahoma City Area. He attended First United Methodist Church in Hydro, where his son Brandon pastors. He was an active member of Sigma Chi. Mark loved to fish and took annual fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. He loved spending time with his children and was very active with coaching and attending their sporting events when they were younger.
He was preceded in death by his mother, and one nephew: Matthew Montgomery.
He is survived by three sons: Brandon Blacksten and his wife, Courtney, Brett Blacksten, and Garrett Blacksten; one daughter: Cassie Blacksten; his father and step-mother: Robert H. and Marian Blacksten; one sister: Susan McCammon and her husband, Mike; one brother: Kelly Montgomery and his wife, Joy; two step-sisters: Paula Duncan and her husband Eddie; and Pam Kahmann and her husband Joe; two nephews: Andrew and Reagin McCammon; two nieces: Sarah and Rachael Montgomery; and numerous aunts, uncles, and step-nieces and nephews.
