Robert Christian Bohley was born July 8, 1947 into the loving marriage of Virginia Estelle Walker and Wilferd William Adam Bohley. He attended school in Clayton, Missouri and obtained his BSChE at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. In 1970 he married the love of his life Carol Ellen Weis Bohley, a marriage that lasted 54 years and delighted them with three daughters, Laura Felicia Bohley Harrington, Melissa Anne Bohley Goosen, and Amanda Catherine Bohley Day.
Carol and Bob moved to Freeport, Texas, where Bob had been hired as a Production Engineer, then Senior Production Engineer in Chlorinated Solvents division of Dow Chemical Company. His expertise took him into various roles within Dow, including group leader of Energy Research, and project manager over the launch of several new process technologies. He finished his 33-year career with Dow as Senior Technology Associate of Polyolefins and Elastomers. These various roles with Dow took the family to Baton Rouge for a year, but the role of Manager of Hydrocarbons and Organic Chemicals Research in Terneuzen, the Netherlands, changed the lives of the whole family as they embraced the experiences of living overseas for six years.
After retirement he worked as a Management Consultant for the Sinclair Group, which took him to facilities all over the world.
Bob enjoyed several hobbies over the years: fishing, boating, golfing, hunting, photography, camping, cycling, and community theater. But his real passion lay in being a volunteer in National Parks for 14 years as an astronomy volunteer. In 2019, the National Park Service named Bob one of seven national winners of the Hartzog Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service for his years of work obtaining International Dark Sky certification for Great Sand Dunes National Park. The family’s love for Great Sand Dunes National Park inspired the purchase of a cabin nearby. Bob’s second calling was portraying Santa for schools, fund raisers, the homeless shelter, and paired with Carol as Mrs. Claus in the annual Norman, Oklahoma, Christmas Parade.
Bob left this world November 24, 2024, surrounded by love from his family: his wife of 54 years Carol Weis Bohley of Norman, Oklahoma; daughters Laura Bohley Harrington (Jeff) of Pearland, Texas, Melissa Bohley Goosen (Bob) of Zionsville, Indiana, and Amanda Bohley Day (Eric) of Norman, Oklahoma. He enjoyed a special bond with his grandchildren Charlotte and Adam Harrington, Ellie Goosen, and Christian and Evie Day; nephews Patrick and Kevin O’Briant, nieces, multiple cousins, friends and many others whose lives he touched. He was met by those who went before him: sisters Elaine and Barbara, parents Wilferd and Virginia, grandparents, and in-laws.
There will be a celebration of life held for Bob on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the University Lutheran Church in Norman, Oklahoma. A second celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St Timothy's Episcopal Church in Lake Jackson, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The Brazosport Center for the Arts and Sciences (bcfas.org/donate) or Food and Shelter of Norman, Oklahoma (foodandshelterinc.org).
