

Born on November 13, 1931, Ron grew up in Rockville Centre, New York, and graduated from South Side High School in 1949. Over the years, he called many places home, including New York, Colorado, Texas, France, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Norway, and finally Oklahoma.
Ron earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, graduating in June 1953. This degree laid the foundation for his long and successful career in the petroleum industry, culminating in his retirement from Phillips Petroleum after many years of professional achievement and global experience.
From February 1954 to February 1956, Ron proudly served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army Counter-Intelligence Corps. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Ron married Virginia Lee Cooper on December 24, 1953, and they shared over 40 years together until her passing in 1994. He later married Eleanor Patricia “Pat” Malone in 1995, and they remained devoted partners until her passing in 2018.
He enjoyed golf, traveling, and exploring the world, always embracing life with curiosity and enthusiasm. Ron was an active member of the Elks, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), St. Michael’s, and the Young Men’s Club of Oklahoma City, cherishing fellowship and community involvement.
Ron is survived by his son, Doug Stiehler, and Doug’s wife, Joyce, of Norman, Oklahoma; his daughter-in-law, Jill Stiehler of Yukon, Oklahoma; his sister, Dolores Perrine of Helotes, Texas; his grandchildren, Tressa Lyon (Scott) of Norman, Oklahoma, Ronald Douglas Stiehler III of Norman, Oklahoma, and Andrew Stiehler of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his great-grandson, Cody Lyon of Norman, Oklahoma. He is also fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Virginia and Pat; his son, John; his brother, Richard; and his parents, John and Ruth Stiehler.
Ron will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, the stories he shared, and the deep love he carried for his family and friends.
A visitation will be held at Primrose Funeral Service, located at 1109 N Porter Ave., Norman, OK 73071, on December 2, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service is scheduled for December 3, 2025, at 10:00 am at St Michael's Episcopal Church, 1601 W Imhoff Rd, Norman, OK 73072. Ron's final resting place will be at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 E. Indian Hills Rd., Norman.
