Ruth Cloher Hoehamer, 95, of Norman, OK passed away peacefully in the company of her daughter Lee on Sunday, July 15, 2018 fulfilling her strong, and long stated wish to live out her last days in her own home. She was born August 8, 1922 in Chicago, IL to Pauline and Norman Cloher.
Ruth always considered Chicago home even though she has lived in Oklahoma for the last 53 years. In her near century of living she experienced some of the most significant events of life managing the Great Depression with her family, sending her brothers and husband Len to serve in World War II, then again in Korea and struggling with pregnancies before her daughter Lee was born. She outlived two husbands and knew the challenges of being a single, working mom. She had the joy of building a new life with her second husband Earl and his children, in Midwest City, OK before moving to Norman as a widow in 2003 to be closer to her family.
Ruth was strong willed and independent, never lacking an opinion and taking great pride in not just doing the right things but in doing things right. The family joke was that she lived by the “Book of Ruth”. Above all else, she loved her family and expressed that love straight from the “Book” by never missing acknowledgement of important events in everyone’s life. She was near lavish in her gift giving – always making sure it was the right gift. She loved to celebrate and entertain her family and perhaps missed most not being in the middle of extended family activities as her age began to limit her stamina and ability to participate fully. She will be missed.
Left to remember her legacy are her children: Lee and husband Rick Hall of Norman and daughter-in-law Laila Hoehamer of Atlanta; grandchildren: Sarah and her husband Cameron Brewer of Norman, Nora Hall of Norman, Ben Felton and his wife Ruchi of Chicago, Ingrid Link of Atlanta, Marit and husband Greg Preast of Grovetown, GA and Chris and wife Young-In Hoehamer of Lakeland, TN; great grandchildren: Nora Brownlee Brewer, Rian Felton, Carson and Hayden Link, Kristin Preast and Emily Hoehamer as well as cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Leonard Pedersen and Earl Hoehamer; brothers; Joe and wife Virgayne Cloher, Jack and wife Harriet Cloher, brother-in-law, Ken Pedersen and his wife Kris and children Rick Hoehamer, Joann and husband Fred Felton.
