Shelley Walton, 71, of Norman, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Shelley was born in De Queen, Arkansas on November 25, 1953. She spent the majority of her life in Oklahoma but set out for Colorado in 1989 for the grand adventure of raising her children among the Rocky Mountains–a chapter which holds many treasured memories of family camping trips, scout meetings, band competitions and road trips while her two sons came of age. In 2011, Shelley returned home to Norman to be near her mother, Dorothy, where she would spend the rest of her life.
Shelley graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a B.A. in Accounting. She was a lifelong Sooner and almost never missed a football game. Shelley enjoyed a long, successful career as a public servant working predominantly in city and county government as a Certified Public Accountant. Most recently, she was a Financial Specialist for the City of Oklahoma City until her retirement. Shelley’s passion for civic engagement was well displayed during her years volunteering accounting services for Kiwanis International. In 2003-2004 she was recognized with the Pat Rust Distinguished Secretary Award for going above and beyond for her local chapter. She cared deeply about her community and her nation. Most notably, Shelley was an immensely kind person who always strove to make sure everyone in her orbit felt cared for, included, and comfortable.
Shelley will be deeply missed by her close family. Her son Wesley Walton and husband Robert Ewanio, her son Drew Walton and his wife Melissa, and her baby grandson, Owen. She is also survived by her three siblings Sandy Fry and husband Darrell, Chuck Robertson and wife Sherri Williamson, and Brad Robertson; her two nieces Tracy Schactman and husband Eric, and Lindsay Burgess and husband Aaron, and their families; her many cousins and extended family; and her two cats, Stevie and Bay Bay. Shelley was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Vernon and Dorothy Marie Robertson, as well as her nephew, Jeffrey Dale Fry.
All family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Shelley’s life to be held on Saturday, July 19th at The Noun Hotel, located at 542 S. University Blvd., Norman, OK 73069 at 12:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers we would ask that donations be made to the non-profit KGOU news station in Shelley’s memory to continue her legacy of civic engagement.
