Born on June 29, 1948, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to John Wesley "Dick" Rogers and Ina Bell "Nancy" Rogers, Eldon was raised in Davis, Oklahoma. From a young age, he embraced the outdoors, spending his time fishing, hunting, and playing football.
After graduating from Davis High School, Eldon volunteered for the draft and was inducted into the United States Army on November 27, 1967. He served bravely in Vietnam as a member of the 25th Infantry Division, where he was stationed in the Tây Ninh province and participated in the Tet Offensive. For his dedicated service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal, before being honorably discharged on July 1, 1969. His time in the military left him with a profound respect for his fellow service members. He always made a point of greeting any veteran he met with a heartfelt, "Welcome home, brother," or "Welcome home, sister.”
Upon his return to Oklahoma, Eldon attended East Central University, graduating in 1973 with a degree in accounting. He then embarked on a dedicated and successful career as an accounting manager at Kerr-McGee Corporation, where he worked until his retirement in 2006.
On April 13, 1984, Eldon married the love of his life, Susan. Together, they shared a beautiful journey raising their two wonderful children. A devoted father, Eldon spent countless hours traveling across the country to support his daughter Jennifer's softball team and helping his son Johnathan prepare for academic meets.
Following his retirement, Eldon could often be found boating or fishing on Lake Texoma, dancing at the local VFW, or watching his beloved Oklahoma Sooners. As "Gramps," he was equally supportive of his grandchildren, whether by attending dance or robotics competitions, performing science experiments, or supporting their musical endeavors. Known as the heart of his family, Eldon lived his life with infectious joy and laughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Nancy, as well as his brothers, Richard Wayne Rogers and John Wesley "Wes" Rogers II.
His memory will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Susan; his daughter, Jennifer Tolbert, and her husband, Shane, of Edmond; his son, Johnathan Rogers, and his wife, Amanda, of Tulsa; his beloved grandchildren, Chris Kelley, Kaylyn Tucker, Ashley Donald, Alexander Donald, McKenna Kelley, and Cade Kelley; his great-granddaughter, Heidi Kelley; his sister, Gloria Diane Paredez of Deer Park, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Though he will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, his family takes great comfort in knowing he has gone to a better place.
Welcome home, brother.
