Verna Joyce Carlisle, 78, of Norman passed away on December 19, 2013 in Norman. A public viewing will be held today, Saturday, December 21, 2013 from 2-6 PM at Primrose Funeral Service. Interment will take place at a later date at the Wanette Cemetery, Wanette, Oklahoma.
Joyce was born on August 2, 1935 in Minnesota to Perry Neal and Gena Elizabeth (Syversrud) Van Keuren. She moved to Oklahoma about 40 years ago and has been living in Norman for the past 20 years. She was the kitchen supervisor at Central State Hospital (Griffin Memorial) for 30 years before retiring.
Joyce loved to help others. She always went out of her way to give to others. She loved to play games on the computer and arts and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Pearl Geary.
Memories will be cherished by her three sons, Bobby Carlisle of Oregon, Randy Carlisle of Moore and Rory Carlisle of Moore; one brother, Buddy Van Keuren and two sisters, Nancy Jeffords and Janice Moon; and many other family members who love her dearly.
