Virginia “Lois” (Adams) (Morgan) Byrd, 85, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was born May 9, 1941, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and passed away June 22, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Lois’s life was a steady, uplifting testimony—marked by faithful devotion, generous service, and a heart that made room for others. Above all, she wanted to be remembered as someone who loved God with all her heart, and those who knew her would say that love was visible in the way she lived, gave, and cared.
Lois spent most of her preteen years on farms near Lindsay, Oklahoma, briefly lived in Midwest City, and then moved to Norman where she graduated from high school. In the early 1960s, she graduated from Hills Business College with a secretarial degree, and later took a few classes at OU and Rose State. Over the years she made her home in Rush Springs, Midwest City, and Jones—where she spent more than 20 years—before returning to Norman, then Noble, and finally moving to rural Oklahoma City in 1993.
A lifelong reader with an artistic, capable spirit, Lois found joy in sewing, embroidery, crochet, cooking, genealogy research, photography, and music. Gospel music was her favorite, and it suited her—hopeful, anchored, and meant to be shared. She played piano and accordion, sang, and spent decades strengthening worship through music ministry, offering her time and talent with quiet confidence and steady grace.
Service was not something Lois scheduled; it was simply how she moved through the world. At Bethel Church, she served as a Missionettes Leader and Royal Rangers Commander. At Norman Tabernacle (Quest Church), she began the nursery, wrote the manual for and organized the alter ministry, served as a greeter, and was part of the care ministry. She also assisted Pastor Harrison before services and, for three years, arranged and organized donations for music ministry conferences. In her family, her devotion shone just as brightly—she was proudest of being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she also helped and homeschool several grandchildren. What many learned from Lois was simple and lasting: how to give love freely.
Lois was married at 17 to Marion Davis Byrd; the marriage ended in divorce before a year had passed. She later married Bobby “Bob” Ray Morgan; they were married for over 30 years before divorcing, and Bob passed in 2018. In 1991, she remarried Marion Byrd, and they remained married until his death in 2021.
Lois is survived by her children: John Morgan and spouse Kristi Morgan of Rush Springs, Oklahoma; Debra Morgan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; James Morgan and spouse Kelly Morgan of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Steven Byrd and spouse Shelie Byrd of Oklahoma; Debbie (Byrd) Partain and spouse Andy Partain (Deceased) of Oklahoma; Tina (Byrd Jackson) Terry and spouse Steve Terry of Oklahoma; and Michael Byrd and spouse Kristi Byrd of Moore, Oklahoma. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and an abundance of great-grandchildren. With gratitude and love, the family also acknowledges her caregivers, Debra Morgan and McKayla Byrd.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Calvin Alvin Adams and Sybil Viola (Bolin) Adams; her brother, James Edward Adams, and Karen M. (Willoughby) Adams; her former husband, Bobby “Bob” Ray Morgan; her husband, Marion “Snooks” Davis Byrd; and her granddaughter, Joni Byrd.
Visitation will be held at Primrose Funeral Service, 3901 N Flood Ave., Norman, OK 73069, on June 30, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Primrose Funeral Service on July 1, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Graveside Service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 E Indian Hills Rd, Norman, OK 73071, on July 1, 2026, from 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
Lois built a life that lifted others—through faith that stayed strong, hands that stayed busy, music that stayed hopeful, and a love that stayed open. Her absence will be deeply felt, but the goodness she planted in family, church, and community will continue to grow.
