

Walter Rainer, Jr. 87, of Norman passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016, in his home. Walter was born January 29, 1929 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Walter and Liddie Berry Rainer. He graduated from Ryan High School in the class of 1946.
Walter married his high school sweetheart, Leona Mae West on May 24th, 1946. They shared 65 years of life, love, family and adventure. They maintained their home in Norman, Oklahoma for 57 years.
Walter began his 30 year career when he enlisted in the United States Air Force in October of 1950, where he spent 8 years as an aircraft mechanic. After his honorable discharge, he served in the Air National Guard for 12 years. His final 10 years of employment was spent at FAA, Will Rogers Base in Oklahoma City.
Walter and Leona’s travels as an Air Force military family included tours of duty in Bermuda, San Antonio and Delaware. After their retirement they spent several years touring the United States in their RV. In later years, they enjoyed each other’s company, family, Saturday night country, classic western, music and following OU sports.
Walter is survived by daughter Dian Rainer Ousley and husband Bud; son, Rick Rainer and wife Cindy; Grandson Scott Ousley; Granddaughter Dreama Rainer; Grandson Steven Rainer; Sister-In Law Cheri West Spears and husband John; Niece Christy Spears; 5 great-grand children, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona May West Rainer, his parents and three sisters.
Walter was known by the family and numerous friends as a kind and gentle person who had a wealth of knowledge of anything mechanical and electrical and was always willing to share his skills to help others.
