

Joyce MacKinnon was born May 9, 1928 in Kelvington to John and Margaret. Joyce had one sister, Anita. During the years when Joyce was going to school she worked at the general store, the post office, and the local creamery. She attended business school and teachers college in Saskatoon.
In 1950, Joyce married Harold Torry from the Kingsland District. Joyce had been teaching in the Camberley School. Joyce and Harold had two sons: Lauchlin Harold Torry was born April 17, 1954 and Russell Gerald Torry born May 15, 1955. They farmed in the Herschel district until July 1966 when Harold had to give up farming due to poor health. They moved to Rosetown where they purchased Rosetown Agencies, which they ran until 1991 when they retired to their cottage at Murray Lake. Joyce has four grandsons Jodie (Melissa), Glen, Kendal, and Shane, as well as two great-grandsons: Aidan and Carter.
Joyce loved when her grandsons spent the summers at the lake and enjoyed taking them places. She had a passion for learning and showed this by keeping knowledgeable with insurance and investments. She also loved family history and genealogy and had made trips to Ontario and Boston to visit relatives.
Joyce and Harold enjoyed playing Bridge and would often have people over to the cabin or go to Meota for a game. They made their winters out at the B.C. coast and loved meeting people and playing cards.
Joyce passed away on November 29, 2010 at the age of 82 years. Cremation has taken place. Donations in Joyce's memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wilson and Zehner Funeral Home, North Battleford, SK (306) 445-6886.
