Marjorie Louise Grimm was born in Hawley, South Dakota to Roy and Ursel Grimm on March 20, 1926. In 1935, her parents moved Marge, her two brothers (Roy and Alvin), and her two sisters (Hazel and Nadine) to the Omak area in Washington State. Marge attended school there and graduated from High School in 1944. After graduation Marge moved to Spokane where she worked in a factory as “Rosy the Riveter” making airplane parts for World War II.
Marge met Bill Staggs when she was seventeen. They married in June 9, 1946 after Bill returned from fighting in the South Pacific in World War II. They made their home in Eastern Washington and started their family. Together they had three children: Sheri, Jean, and Jack. In 1951 Bill and Marge moved their family to the Snoqualmie Valley where they settled and have lived ever since. Marge and Bill celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary last year.
Marge worked for the King County Library System at the Snoqualmie branch for twenty-five years and retired from there. She loved reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family. In their retirement, she and Bill took numerous trips, such as to Spain and Mexico, went on cruises, and spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona. Many of her days were spent perusing garage sales or flea markets looking for that special find.
Marge spent much of her free time volunteering. For 12 years in Yuma, Arizona, she volunteered by working in a second hand store that donated the proceeds to Hospice Care. She also volunteered with the VFW wives in the Snoqualmie area by baking cookies for the troops and other various activities.
Marge passed away April 10, 2013. She is survived by her husband Bill, her sister Hazel Cornwell of Port Orchard, WA, children Sheri Olson (Lance) of Milton, WA, Jean Christensen (Bob) of Snoqualmie, WA, and Jack Staggs of Leavenworth, WA, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
A memorial will be held at the Mignone Building in downtown Snoqualmie May 4, 2013 from 2-5. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Evergreen Hospice Care or the local chapter of the VFW wives.
