Barbara Owen

Barbara S. Owen, 86, of North Charleston, SC , died in her home on December 29, 2017. Barbara was born September 19, 1931 in LaGrange, GA, the daughter of Earl and Clessie Stroud. She had one younger brother, Jonathan Stroud. She graduated from Tift College of Forsyth, GA, in 1955, and also graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Fort Worth, TX in 1959. Barbara is survived by her husband, Richard A. Owen, Sr. , two children, Richard A. Owen, Jr. and Gina Litchfield, as well as three grandchildren, Zachery, Anna, and Samuel. She taught elementary school for 4 years before starting a family. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She worked tirelessly in church as a teacher, youth leader, and choir member for 55 years. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Pittman Street Baptist Church, 5105 Pittman st. in North Charleston, the Reverend David Ridley officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm in the Church. Burial will follow in Live Oak cemetery, 3093 Ashley River Road, in Charleston. Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston is serving the Owen family.
