Clifton was born in Seward, Nebraska on May 27, 1929,the son of Clifton D. Green, Sr. and Florence Ervin Green.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 ½ years, Barbara Lassiter Green and his younger brother, David A. Green.
Clif grew up in Fort Madison, Iowa and then moved with his family to Northern CA where he
graduated from Oroville High School. He was an Eagle Scout. In 1951, he earned his BA in Business
Administration at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. After college, he served in the Air
Force, which brought him to the Charleston Air Base and the meeting of his future wife, Barbara.
Clif retired from the Wood Procurement department of Westvaco in North Charleston after 41 years of
service. He was a member of the American Pulpwood Association and received national safety awards
from the APA in 1980. He was also an active member of the South Carolina Forestry Association for
many years. After retirement, Clif became a volunteer with the SC Aquarium, where he served for 14
years. In recent years, he volunteered at the Summerville-Dorchester Museum as a tour guide. He was
also an active and enthusiastic gardener and loved his yard at the Village.
Clif was a current member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where in past years, was an active
choir member. He was a former long-time member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church where he served
as Elder, Sunday School superintendent and sang in the choir.
Clif is survived by his daughter, Susan Green-Grove and her husband David Grove of Tega Cay, SC,
son Steven D. Green (Helen) of Johns Island, SC, his brother Dick Green of Lodi, CA, many special
nieces and nephews across the country, and two step granddaughters.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Blvd,
Charleston on September 8, 2021, at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the
Village of Summerville Employees Appreciation Fund, 201 W. 9th North St., Summerville, SC 29483,
the SC Aquarium, 100 Aquarium Wharf Charleston SC 29401 or to Westminster Presbyterian Church.
