Born on September 14, 1936, in Wichita Falls, Texas, he was the son of the late Daniel Stephens Gross Sr. and Trixie Cannedy Gross.
For more than 30 years, Mr. Gross faithfully served the Berkeley County School District at Hanahan High School, where he worked as both a teacher and principal before retiring. As principal, he became a pillar of the school community — a steady leader, an encourager of excellence, and a proud supporter of the Hanahan “Hawks.” His team spirit was contagious, and his commitment to students and faculty alike left a lasting impact on countless lives. His legacy as an educator is measured not only in years of service, but in the generations of students he guided, mentored, and inspired.
A man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Gross served faithfully at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, where he dedicated his time as a Sunday school teacher and in many other roles within the church family. His love for the Lord and his church community was evident in his willingness to serve wherever needed.
Outside of his professional and church life, Daniel enjoyed spending time on the golf course, where he found relaxation and fellowship as an avid golfer.
Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Sylvia Vaughan Gross; his son, Daniel S. Gross III (Pankey) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; his daughter, Belinda A. Servia (William) of Tampa, FL; his daughter, Laura J. Cook of Adams Run, SC; and his daughter-in-law, Sherry G. Bost (Matt) of Summerville, SC. He also leaves behind several loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Vaughan Gross; his sister, Mildred Frances Gross; and his son-in-law, Randall Burke Cook.
