Relatives and friends of David Baker are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 12 Noon, Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 3595 Ashley Phosphate Rd., North Charleston. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
David was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on September 16, 1947. He was the son of Roy and Mary Baker. He was the owner of D.E. Baker Hauling, serving the surrounding areas of Charleston and Summerville. He spent most of his life working hard, building a business and a life he could be proud of. After retiring from his business, David moved to Santee, where he lived in the same subdivision as his lifelong friend, Rex Litchfield.
David was carefree, generous, and always ready with a joke or a smile. He loved his family deeply and treasured his many friendships. He especially enjoyed spending time at the lake, where he could relax and enjoy life.
David also had a special place in his heart for stray cats. He made sure they had food and shelter and took care of them whenever he could. His kindness extended not only to the people he loved, but to animals in need as well.
David will be remembered for his big smile, generous heart, easygoing spirit, sense of humor, love of family and friends, and the simple joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
David is survived by his son, David Baker Bledsoe (Mildred); his granddaughter, Sage Bledsoe; his sisters, Rose Mary Bourque (Lercy) and Jeanette Jones (Rodney); nieces and nephews, Page Campbell, Nicholas Bourque (Holly), Amity Meddings (Scott), Parker Jones, Lindsay Martinez (Ivan) and Ashley Ball (Josh). He was preceded in death by his father, Roy M. Baker; mother, Mary E. Baker; brother, Roy Baker, Jr. and his niece, Renee Bourque.
