Diana Goerler Byrd, 71, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on August 7, 2021 after a battle with cancer. She was born on August 1, 1950 in Cincinnati, OH, but relocated to Charleston at the age of three. She is the daughter of Betty T Bratcher and James W Goerler (deceased). She was raised by her Mother and loving adopted Father, John W. Turner, Jr. (deceased)
Diana is survived by her loving and devoted husband Harvey E Byrd for 53 years. Daughter; Kimberly Byrd Koontz, (Phillip A Koontz, Sr). Five Grandchildren; Ashlynn K Murray, Blake P. Murray, John G Murray, Lauryn D. Koontz and Phillip A Koontz, Jr. Two brothers; Johnnie W Turner, III (Renee G Turner) of Greenwood, SC, and Thomas W Goerler of Cincinnati, OH. A special Aunt, Judy J Talbott, Huger, SC. They grew up together and felt more like sisters.
Diana was predeceased by her daughter, Melissa Byrd Murray, (Johnny P Murray). Her sister, Karen G Harmon (deceased), (Douglas Harmon) of Clermont, FL
One of Diana's greatest and proudest accomplishments was being a loving and caring Mother and Grandmother (Na-Na). Her house was a like a community playground when Kim and Melissa were growing up. When the Grandkids arrived, her house was like a campground and amusement park on the weekends. She cooked their favorite meals or took them out to eat. Then to the malls and movies. She always had full agendas for their entertainment. These special times allowed her to have a 2nd and 3rd childhood, and she dearly loved them all.
Diana and her husband Harvey were high school sweethearts and loved to travel in their RV. They made numerous trips with all 5 Grandkids during annual Spring Breaks and Summer vacations. They also made several trips across the country and spent many years in Florida during the winter months.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Essex Village Church of Christ located at 736 Savage Rd, Charleston, SC 29414. She was a dedicated member and considered the wonderful people at Essex Village her extended family.
