

Relatives and friends of Doris James are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 12 Noon, Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and relatives from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Tuesday. Doris was born May 23, 1934, in Ayden, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Mary (Smith) Mozingo of Pitt County, NC. Doris graduated from Maury High School in 1952 and married her high school sweetheart William (Bill) James. They had three children. She took care of their three children while Bill was away flying in the US Air Force as well as working in the private industry as a bookkeeper. After 20 years in the military, they moved to Ladson, SC where she worked at the Naval Weapon Station for 20 years, retiring in 1993. After Bill’s passing Doris moved to Elgin, SC to be near her daughter, Linda Shealy. Doris was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her love, warmth, quiet strength and devotion to her family. She was the BEST MOM. Doris enjoyed the mountains, beach, fishing, canning, collecting dolls, gospel music, and her companion dogs Toby and Precious. She was a member of Tall Pines Baptist Church in Ladson, SC where she was baptized by Pastor Jim Pye.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William David James of 41 years; son, David A. James; grandson, Wyatt R. James; brothers, James Mozingo (Francis), Robert Mozingo (Viola), Guy Mozingo (Catherine), Wallace Mozingo (Margaret) and William Mozingo; sisters, Mary Ellen Newborn (Quentin), Shirley Moore (James) and Peggy Hawkins.
Left to mourn Doris’ passing are her two children and their spouses, Linda Shealy (Keith) and Larry James (Stacy); grandchildren, Amanda and Jonathan James (David James deceased father and their mother Laurie James), Austin James (Olivia) and Emily Souffrance (Harchdy); her sisters, Vera Maness and Helen Bunn (Whitie deceased) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Presbyterian Communities of SC in Lexington, SC and Abbey Road Hospice of Columbia, SC for their care and support.
