Doris Jean Pellegrini

Doris Newton Peak Pellegrini, 76, of Summerville, died Thursday, May 7, 2015. Doris was born to Marvin W. and Louvenia Hennessee Newton on August 18, 1938 in Rutherfordton County, NC. She moved to South Carolina in 1947 and spent 30 years employed as a comptroller at the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. Doris was an active member of the American Legion Rider’s Post 166 and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 10256. She loved to ride and travel with her husband. Doris is survived by her loving husband and faithful companion of 25 years, Frank Pellegrini; one son, James William Peak; one daughter, Pamala Peak-Widener; step-children, Hazel Malmede, Anthony Pellegrini, Gene Pellegrini, and Charmaine Pellegrini, all of Summerville; two sisters, Betty Newton Lovingood (James) of Huger, SC, and Sherry Newton Vieth (Eddie) of Navarre, FL. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a loyal puppy by the name of Tigger. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her grandparents, who held a special place in her heart, Russell K. and Carrie Bennett Hennessee; one sister, Frances Newton Jarvis Boltz of Richmond, VA, and one brother, Billy Newton of Kings Bay, GA. The Pellegrini family would like to express great appreciation to Doris’s nurses, Christy Howard and Teresa of Southern Care Hospice of Charleston, and also to her caregiver, Mary Henderson. We love you all and thank you for caring for Doris, our mother, wife, sister and granny. Visitation will take place on Sunday, May 10, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service for Doris will take place on Monday, May 11, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. in Carolina Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow immediately after the service in Carolina Memorial Park.
