Dorothy Jean DuRant

Dorothy Jean DuRant, age 81, departed this world on January 10, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born in Charleston, SC, Dotty was the beloved daughter of Grady and Patsy Lyerly.

She is survived by her loving husband, Danny L DuRant Sr., and their three devoted children: Danny L. DuRant Jr. (JoLynn), Gregg W. DuRant (Angie), and Christopher H. DuRant (Tiffany). Dotty’s impact extended to the next generation with her grandchildren: Allie Ellis (Mark), Adam DuRant, Marissa D. Barnette (David), Emily DuRant, Eli DuRant, Joshua DuRant, Christopher Kinard (Allison), Amanda J. DuRant, and Kennedy C. DuRant. Her great-grandchildren, Lilia Ellis, Whitley Barnette, Melanie Kinard, Christopher Kinard (Jr), Katie Kinard, and Cole Kinard. She is also survived by her sister Libby Bunch and brother Rick Brigman, whom all will continue to carry her memory.

She is preceded in death by her father, Grady W. Lyerly; mother, Patsy Ruth McGee Brigman; step-mother, Frances S Lyerly; step-father, Howard Brigman; and two sisters, Carolyn C. Lyerly Wilson and Diane L. Epps.

Dotty’s journey included graduation from Hanahan High School in 1961, and she was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Her life was rich with love, family, and passions. Dotty found joy in spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her talents extended to cooking, gardening, and sewing, each skill a testament to her caring nature. She shared cherished moments watching westerns on TV with her husband and held a deep love for her pets. Above all, Dotty's faith in the Lord was a guiding force in her life.

A visitation to celebrate Dorothy's life will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 6:00-7:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home located at 7113 Rivers Ave. North Charleston, SC 29406. A heartwarming celebration of life service will follow on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
