

Echo Betty Wade, born December 5, 1945 in Altoona, PA, passed away on February 11, 2021 in Goose Creek, SC. A long time resident of Goose Creek, she was the daughter of Lt. Col. Dallas C. Wade and Betty Y. Wade, and attended schools in Norfolk, Va. and Heidelberg, Germany, where her father was stationed with the U.S. Army. She finished high school in Greenville, S.C., attended the University of Florida and Presbyterian College, before completing her master's degree in library science at the Citadel.
Echo retired from the Berkeley County School System, having taught for many years in Goose Creek and St. Stephens, SC. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Wade of Sacramento, CA.
She loved her friends, family and her church, the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Charleston, SC. She was very involved with her church community and was active in many of their programs. For many years she participated in their Youth Program and their Rural Mission on Johns Island.
Echo had many interests and enjoyed playing the Appalachian dulcimer with her musical friends. She touched many lives through her vocation of storytelling. She loved telling stories to all ages, especially to children every summer at the Christmount Christian Assembly in Black Mountain, NC. A master storyteller, Echo regularly attended the Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN, and enjoyed traveling also to Montreat, NC, Wild Acres, NC and Berea, KY to give and collect stories.
She was a volunteer for many years at the Spoleto Arts Festival.
Echo's absence will be greatly missed by family and friends and all those who knew her. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Stella Weir for her service and kindness.
