Evelyn E. Newell

Evelyn E. Newell of No. Charleston, SC, age 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on May 24, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Joe T. Newell, Jr. and her eldest son, Randy J. Newell. She is survived by daughter: Cindy N. Danko; son: Craig Newell (Terri), both of Ladson, SC; sister: Peggy E. Hutson, of No. Charleston, SC; and 5 grandchildren: Joe T. “Tommy” Newell, Randy “Joey” Newell, Jr., Don G. Danko, Crystal Simpson, and Shawn Newell; and 12 great-grand-children. Evelyn was born in Nichols, SC on September 19, 1931 to the late Emory and Ella S. Elliott. She was a retired business agent with the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union. She also worked for the Manhattan Shirt Co. and Levi Strauss. She was devoted to her family, a devout christian, and an avid gardener. She was a member of Doorway Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Evelyn E. Newell to Doorway Baptist Church, 7825 Dorchester Rd., North Charleston, SC, 29418. Funeral services will be held at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home chapel at 7113 Rivers Ave., No. Charleston, SC, 29406 at 2:00 pm Wednesday May 27, 2015. Interment will follow in Carolina Memorial Park, No. Charleston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:00 pm until the start of the service.
