A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 22nd at 4:00 pm at Aldersgate Methodist Church, 1444 Remount Road in N. Charleston. The family will receive friends for a visitation starting at 3:00 pm
Frances was born in Charleston, South Carolina, youngest daughter of John and Manda (Fuller) Williams on November 17, 1950. She was a graduate of Hanahan High School class of ’68 then went on to receive her bachelor’s degree in education from Newberry College and Master of Education from the College of Charleston. After teaching briefly in Sumter and Columbia she returned to Hanahan to continue her teaching career of over 30 years.
Frances had an immeasurable impact on the students she taught, providing a strong educational foundation, instilling confidence, and inspiring many to become teachers themselves. Fishburne and Hanahan Elementary were her home away from home where fellow teachers and staff were loved like family.
Similarly, Aldersgate Methodist Church was home to Frances for most of her life, attending as a child and continuing membership throughout her life. Frances was married there and raised her children at Aldersgate. She was a dedicated Sunday School attendee, VBS volunteer, and as worship committee leader, she dedicated herself to the beatification of the sanctuary. Through the church’s connection with Holy City Missions, she became a regular volunteer at their weekly food bank, a service opportunity that became near and dear to her heart.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents, John and Manda Williams; and her first husband and the love of her life, Ronald Geary; and niece, Amy Booth Metts
Frances is survived by her sister, Irene Booth; brother-in-law, Robert Booth; nieces, Robyn Culberson (Chip) and Angela Booth; nephew, Kevin Metts and great-nephew, Riley Metts; daughter, Erin Lawhon (Jason); daughter, Rebecca Barry (David); granddaughters, Veda, Manda and Addison Barry, and step-grandchildren, Kailyn and Michael Lawhon.
In lieu of flowers memorials given to Holy City Missions at https://www.holycitymissions.org/ would be appreciated.
The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Life Care Center of Charleston and Roper Hospice.
