Franklin D Osburn

February 17, 1936 – March 16, 2025

Franklin (Frank) David Osburn, age 89, was born in Heber Springs, AR. He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Agape Hospice House in Goose Creek, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents, John David Osburn and Zula Isabelle Owen Osburn, brother Kenneth Osburn, and sisters Wanda Osburn Pegg Gibson, Mildred Osburn Chandler Smith, Fleda Osburn Shearer, Betty Osburn Billington, Wynona Osburn Thompson, and Patty Osburn Francis. His daughter, Deborah Ann Osburn Lake also preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Katherine (Kathy) Bailey Osburn, daughter Linda Osburn Richards and grandchildren, Robert (Robbie) Richards, Michelle Lake Lemanski (Frank), and Phillip Lake.

The fifth child of eight children, he was right in the middle between 3 older sisters and 3 younger sisters. He was known as the, ”ugly sister”! The siblings were lifelong friends, had many wonderful adventures, and lots of stories to tell.

Frank moved with his family to Michigan in the early 1950’s. He was quite the “character” and loved riding his Harley Davidson Flathead 45 motorcycle. He joined the Navy the day he turned 17 during the Korean Conflict and served honorably for the next 20 years as a Submariner on many Naval boats.

He met his wife to be, Kathy, at church and was introduced to her as “a cousin”. Thankfully that was not true! Frank’s sister Betty was Kathy’s best friend. Kathy was a “member” of the Osburn family long before she ever met Frank. They were married in 1958 and began their life together. They soon had 2 daughters join them to continue their journey, moving all over the US. Frank retired as a Torpedoman’s Mate Chief in 1973. He then joined the Fleet Reserve of The United States Navy and was a member until his death. Frank was proud to serve his country and was willing to sacrifice himself, to protect the freedoms that we now have. After retiring from the Navy, Frank went to work for Sears as an AC/Refrigeration Technician for the next 20 years. He loved to learn how things worked. Frank took a correspondence course before retiring from the Navy, so that he would be able to have a career to support his family. He took every class that was available to him and learned how to fix just about anything. He made many lifelong friends during that time and always had a story to tell regarding his service calls with customers.

Frank served in the church wherever he was needed. After his salvation in 1981, he became a faithful follower of Christ. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church and was ready to meet the Lord when it was his time.

A Visitation will be held on Monday March 24, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A Celebration of Life service will follow from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Burial will be at Carolina Memorial Gardens at 12:00 pm.
