Gaudiosa Singh Andaya, 92 years old and dearly referred to as “Josie” passed away on the 30th of January 2025. She was the first child of Hari Singh from Punjab, India and Luisa Tecson Lim from Cebu City, Philippines. She lived knowing a large family including 3 sisters (and spouses): Fidela (Eleazer Bautista), Merced (Rolando Lizarondo), and Felicidad (Bartolome Figuracion), plus a brother Alfred (Violeta Loo). She earned her accounting degree from Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines where she met Domingo Beley Andaya, whom she married in 1955. She was a beloved mother to Maria Luisa “Marissa” (Arnel Coronel), Manolito Luis “Lelet” (Cynthia Villanueva), Marlon Leonardo, Michael Lauro “Bumbum” (Kathryn Owen), Mayda Lani (Patrick Horstmann), Mark Lyndon “Akie” (Sean Sell), and Marvin Luther. She was a grandmother to Marinelle and Agnes (Januarie Sundiang) through Marissa, plus Christian, Roberto “Bobby” (Fanny Blasselle), and Melissa (Richard Moralez) through Lelet. She was a great grandmother to Ethan Skye through Agnes, and Amelia Lily and Sage Coco through Bobby. She was Tita Josie to dozens of nephews and nieces, and was also a pet mama to a menagerie of animals.
Josie was a hardworking and sensible matriarch who practiced her favorite mantra: “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Josie was strong-willed as Domingo who was the only man she ever wanted. While Domingo was unparalleled in cooking, Josie’s potato salad became legendary and a sought-after dish on holidays. Josie proclaimed she would choose to have her seven children again if she were to re-live her life. She taught her children how to pray, how to be organized, and how to succeed in life. An accountant until age 69 in New York City, Josie was meticulous with balancing spreadsheets and skilled with the hand-cranked adding machine, the vintage sewing machine, and the piano. She will forever be credited by her family for finding ways to make life better.
