

Gerald Nunzio Shallo, a resident of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on May 17, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, Gerald lived a life defined by faith, service, leadership, and an unwavering devotion to his family.
Gerald proudly served his country and community for more than five decades. He began his career in public service with the United States Air Force in December 1960, serving as an Air Policeman. Over more than 30 years of military service, he rose to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E-9) with the Air Force Security Police. His service included four years of active duty, one year with the New York Army National Guard, 25 years with the New York National Guard, and 10 years with the New York State Guard.
He was assigned to the 105th Air Mobility Group, Security Police Squadron, where he oversaw law enforcement and security divisions. He later served as Command Chief Master Sergeant for the New York Guard Air Division at Stewart Air Base in Newburgh, New York. Gerald was a graduate of the United States Air Force Non-Commissioned Officers Academy and the New York State Military Academy.
In civilian life, Gerald dedicated over 30 years to the New York State Criminal Justice System. He served with the Westchester County Department of Correction, retiring with the rank of Captain. Throughout his career, he supervised inmates and detainees in compliance with New York State law and departmental regulations. He held numerous leadership roles, including Director of the Westchester County Department of Correction Training Academy and Commander of Special Operations, overseeing the Tactical Team, Emergency Response Team, and Gang Intelligence Unit.
A certified New York State Police Instructor, Gerald developed training programs, authored lesson plans and standard operating procedures, and helped establish accredited training initiatives in partnership with local colleges, including John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
In 1998, Gerald joined Command Security Corporation, where he served in several leadership roles, including Personnel Manager for Westchester County. He managed personnel operations, enhanced training programs to ensure compliance with New York State law, and served as a certified instructor and fingerprint expert.
A man of deep faith, Gerald lived his life guided by his love for the Lord and a heartfelt commitment to serving others. While attending Christian Renewal Church in Hilton Head Island, he led the Security and Safety Ministry for a period of time before turning over his duties, where he faithfully practiced protecting and serving the church community.
Gerald was also deeply committed to volunteer service. He volunteered with the USO in Savannah, Georgia, and shared his love of history by participating in Civil War tours on Hilton Head Island. He was a proud member of the Italian American Association, the American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of Police.
Above all, Gerald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was married to his beloved wife, Marie Shallo, for 58 years. He is survived by his children, Jerry (Shelly) Shallo and Rebecca (Gabe) Tricarico; his grandchildren, Emily, Mark, Ashley, Julia, Maia, Makenzie, Luca, Richard (Brittany), and West (Abby); and his great-grandchildren, Ava, William, Haizely, and Isla. He is also survived by his brother, John Anthony Shallo.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Luca Shallo and Josephine Shallo.
Gerald Nunzio Shallo will be remembered for his unwavering faith, lifelong commitment to service, strong leadership, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy of integrity, service, and devotion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
