Gloria was born January 25, 1925 on the family farm in Ashley, North Dakota where she lived until her family moved to Fargo, North Dakota. She was the last surviving sibling of 9. Gloria graduated from Mounds Midway School of Nursing in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1951 where she felt she was being called into the mission field as an RN.
In 1954, at 25 years old, Gloria left for San Jose, Costa Rica for Spanish language school before beginning her mission work at HCJB in Quito, Ecuador. While in Costa Rica she met John Mosiman who also felt called to the mission field. They were married November 16. 1955 in Quito.
Gloria was tasked with starting a hospital and developing a nursing program to train the local women. Gloria and her late husband John were missionaries in Quito for 12 years.
After returning to the states she focused on raising their family, returning to nursing when the children were older.
Gloria’s love for God and her serving heart continued as she and John started small groups in the churches they attended, mentoring others. They also held bible studies in their home and spent time helping the poor and needy in their community. Gloria was also an integral part of her late husband’s ministry, “His Work,” after they retired and moved to Austin, TX. In addition, she helped with building houses in Acuna, Mexico, she hosted many at their home who came from out of state to help with the housing ministry and they assisted in setting up educational scholarships for students to be able to attend school.
Gloria had many talents, she was an avid gardener establishing beautiful flower beds and landscaping in all their homes; a skilled seamstress from sewing clothes to recovering upholstery; and she refinished old furniture that had been discarded into beautiful pieces.
Gloria’s deep love for her family, relatives, and friends showed in her selflessness serving others throughout her whole life. She was an example to many with her love her God, her commitment to God’s word, her belief, and example of the power of prayer, her perseverance in the face of adversity.
Proverbs 31 reads: She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all."
Gloria is survived by her 3 children; Elizabeth Adkins of Summerville, South Carolina; Marianne Sullivan of Austin, Texas; John Douglas (JD) and Ajeli Mosiman of Fort Mill, South Carolina; and five grandchildren, Kyle and Katy Sullivan, Rebekah, Nathanael, and Shelivia Mosiman who will all miss her greatly.
