

Gracie Smith, 85 years young, of Summerville, South Carolina, widow of George Fletcher Smith Jr., passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Born on December 28, 1939, in Pamplico, SC, she was the daughter of Robert “Bob” Hyman and Lila “Polly” Gibbs Hyman.
Gracie had a fulfilling career as the Finance Director for the Town of Summerville before retiring. She was an active member of Old Fort Baptist Church in Summerville, where she found strength and support in her faith and community. Gracie’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family, and she especially cherished her frequent trips to the beach and outings for shopping. Her warm and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Smith; her sister, Roberta Hyman Evans; and her brothers, Phillip and Jack Hyman.
Gracie is survived by her brother, Gibbs Hyman; her sister, Rebecca Trotter; her nephew, Robert Hyman, and his children, Lily and Cannon; her niece, Chastity Martin, and her children, Junior and McKenzie; her nieces Debbie Grooms and Jackie Hunter; as well as many extended nephews, nieces, and other family members who loved her dearly.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to her nephew, Robert Hyman, and niece, Debbie Grooms, for their unwavering love and devoted care for Gracie during her time of need.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with interment to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
Gracie’s family is comforted knowing that her loving presence will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be missed but never forgotten.
