

Hoyt S. Baxley, 88, of North Charleston, SC, passed away on May 23, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones. Hoyt, a retired, twenty-three year USAF Technical Sergeant Veteran, served worldwide, including Saudi Arabia, Germany, Vietnam, and Thailand. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in the Republic of Vietnam, and the Air Force Commendation Medal for service at Barksdale AFB Louisiana and also at Ubon AFB Thailand.
He was born to Winfred Judson Baxley and Ethel Mae Richardson Baxley on December 30, 1937, in Brittons Neck, SC.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart, Emily Wren Ray Baxley; son, Robert H. Baxley (Gretchen) of Moyock, NC; daughter-in-law, Mary Baxley of Baytown, TX; grandchildren, Michael Baxley (Nancy), Bryan Baxley, Michele LaBrosse, and Melynda LaBrosse; one great-grandson, Jason Baxley, of Moyock, NC; a sister, Linda Dennis (Judy) of Hemingway, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Ray Baxley of Baytown, TX; granddaughter, Laura Baxley; four brothers; and five sisters.
Hoyt was an avid sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed Baseball and NASCAR racing. He was an athlete and played High School Baseball. During his duty in the Air Force, he also participated in squadron softball at numerous Air Force Bases and coached his son’s Little League baseball teams.
A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.
A committal service will take place at 2:30 pm, on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nebo Baptist Church, 6411 Hwy 908, Brittons Neck, SC 29546.
