

Jack W. McGinnis, 84, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 3, 2016 at a local hospital. He has traveled on to be with his loving wife Otelia "Tee" who passed away on January 2. 2000. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, September 8 at 2 o'clock at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC. A memorial service will be held at Carolina Memorial Park Chapel at 3 o'clock the same day. Jack was born February 29, 1932 in Rome, GA, son of the late Henry and Lillian McGinnis. He graduated from Murray Vocational High School in Charleston, SC. He served with the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey and the U.S. Navy Reserve. After military service, he worked as a producer at WCSC Channel 5 television in Charleston, SC. He co founded Charleston's first FM radio station, WKTM 102.5. He sailed for 24 years as a marine engineer with the U.S. Merchant Marine fleet then after retirement, worked an additional 20 years as the local union agent for MEBA, the Marine Engineers Beneficial Association. He retired again in 2014 at the age of 82. Survivors include two daughters: Deborah McGinnis Brannen and Melissa McGinnis, both of Summerville; two grandchildren: Jackie Brannen Tucker and Jason McGinnis Brannen, both of Summerville and one great granddaughter: Trevor L. Tucker of Summerville. He was predeceased by his sister, Bettye Hill of Hanahan, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
