

Born in Morganza, LA on August 17, 1932, Mr. Chustz was the son of the late Elias Joseph Chustz and Louise Iona Callahan Chustz. James and Sandra were married on May 18, 1980.
James Ray Chustz enlisted in the Louisiana Coast Guard Reserve at the age of 17. At the age of 19, he transferred to the Army Reserves and later to the Air Force. His Air Force career took him all over the world to places such as Morocco, Madrid, Tokyo, Lima Peru and Vietnam and served 4 years in in Aviano, Italy. Charleston AFB became his final duty station where he served the remainder of his military and civil service careers. Mr. Chustz served our country a total of 24 years in active duty military and 20 years in Civil Service with the Air Force.
Mr. Chustz is survived by his wife Sandra Owens Chustz of North Charleston; Son Gerald & Brenda Chustz and grandsons Chris and Matt; Daughter Pam & Glenn Pollard and Son Brian Chustz & Misti and grandson Tucker; stepsons Owen Poole (deceased) & grandson Brad; and Wendell Poole & grandson Matt; and 10 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Chustz was preceded in death by, paternal grandparents, Joseph Verjus Chustz and Louise Marie Josephine LeCoq; maternal grandparents, James G and Martha Brown Callahan; siblings, Lloyd J Chustz, Bernice Barras, Harold Chustz, Dempsey Chustz and Denzel Chustz.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. 843-797-2222. The funeral service will follow immediately in the chapel at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Park.
