

Jim was a graduate of Chicora High School in N. Charleston and Marsh Business College in Atlanta, he went on to serve our country in the US Marine Corp serving for 11 years. After the Marine’s Jim went to work at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, retiring with over 30 years of service. He then became Co-owner of Custom Ideas Unlimited.
He was a proud member of Wando Woods Baptist Church where he was a Kingsman Sunday school teacher.
Jim coached youth sports in the area for over 40 years, was a Chairman with Cooper River Parks and Playgrounds, a Life Member of AMVETS, served on the Board of Veterans Affairs, he was a one of kind man who helped anyone who needed help. He worked hard for his family as they were so important to him.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Mitchell Conner, a son, James (Mary Ellen) Conner, of Charleston, four daughters, Angela (Jeff) Benson, of Columbia, Joy (Roger) Norlander, of Port Orchard, WA, Wanda (Erik) Houge, of Port Orchard, WA, and Jymme Lynn (Steve) Lemmons , of Port Orchard, WA, 14 grandchildren including his best bud Patrick Conner, and 23 great-grandchildren, two brothers, Donald (Jeannie) Conner, and Eddie Conner,and a sister, June (Van) Broad.
He was preceded in death by father and 2nd mother, Lowell and Wilma Conner, his mother and 2nd father, Helen Minge and Cauley Joe Powell, and his sister, Billie Owens.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 3:30 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Carolina Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
